A watch reference number (or "ref") is a unique alphanumeric code assigned by the manufacturer to identify a specific model configuration. It encodes information like the case material, dial colour, bezel type, and movement. For example, Rolex ref 126610LN refers to the Submariner Date with a black dial and black ceramic bezel in stainless steel.
It's typically engraved on the caseback, between the lugs (visible when the bracelet is removed), or printed on the warranty card/papers. Some brands also display it on the dial or movement. Check your box and papers first, the reference is usually printed clearly on the warranty certificate.
Each brand has its own format. Rolex uses 6-digit codes (126610LN), Omega uses long dotted numbers (310.30.42.50.01.001), Patek Philippe uses a number/letter combo (5711/1A-010), and Audemars Piguet uses alphanumeric codes (15500ST.OO.1220ST.01). Our decoder handles all major formats.
