Frequently Asked Questions

How does the watch identifier work?

Our AI-powered identifier uses OpenAI's Vision technology to analyze your uploaded photo. It examines the dial design, case shape, brand markings, and other visual characteristics to determine the brand, model, and reference number. Results are then cross-referenced with our database of 64,000+ watch listings to provide current market pricing.

What photo gives the best results?

For best results, take a clear, well-lit photo showing the full dial face with the brand name and hour markers visible. Avoid extreme angles, heavy reflections, or dark shadows. Close-up photos of just the dial work better than full wrist shots.

How accurate is the identification?

The AI correctly identifies the brand and model family in most cases (high confidence). Exact reference numbers may vary — the AI provides its best match and indicates confidence level (high, medium, or low). For definitive identification, we recommend cross-checking with a reference number lookup.

Is my photo stored or shared?

No. Your photo is sent to OpenAI for analysis and immediately discarded. We do not store, save, or share any uploaded images. The processing is done in real-time and no image data is retained.

Which brands can be identified?

The identifier works for virtually all watch brands — from major houses like Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, and Audemars Piguet to independent watchmakers and microbrands. Our database tracks over 1,300 brands, and the AI has knowledge of thousands more.
